About Alison Sher

The Origin Story

Why Me?

I started my career as a journalist, writing articles for newspapers and magazines, primarily about food of all subjects. People actually paid me to dip things into sauce! It was pretty amazing.

After four years, I left my position as a contributing writer at the City Paper and moved into the digital sphere, serving as the editor-in-chief of Best Chefs America, a peer reviewed compendium of the best chefs in America. I also launched and served as the lead writer and managing editor of Marmalade Magazine – an online food and style magazine for bold women.

But eventually, even dipping things into sauce and describing the experience became repetitive. So I decided to embark on creating something more meaningful – an in-depth journalism expose on arguably the most ridiculed people in America at that time … the members of my generation.

After 5 years of research, I completed my debut original book concept, The Millennial’s Guide to Changing the World, which was internationally released in 2018 through Skyhorse Publishing and represented by the Nancy Owen Barton Literary Agency.

“I honestly do not think that I could have written from such a deep place within my soul without Alison beside me. She turned my little spark of an idea into the eternal flame of my work and everything has changed for the better as a result.”

Book Projects

The Life & Times of Izzie Dean

Follow philosopher, vagabond, and environmental activist Izzie Mogelgaard as he looks back at the crossroad choices in his history and explores alternative types of living in this privately-commissioned legacy project biography.

Living Life On Purpose

Yoga teacher, former ballet dancer, and coach Katie Ashley merges recovery wisdom with spiritual teachings as she shares her journey overcoming a life-threatening eating disorder (with forward by Dharma Punx founder Noah Levine).

Leave Only Footprints

A tale of a father compelled by tragedy to leave India to build a new life in British East Africa at a very young age – and his son born in racially segregated Kenya, experiencing the cruelty of colonial rule and the pain of the Mau Mau rebellion.

Every Breaking Wave

Perry Julien has photographed some of the greatest music legends of our time ranging from The Rolling Stones to Miley Cyrus to Stevie Nicks and beyond. I wrote the introduction to this photography book, commemorating the ebbs and flows and aliveness of life on the water.

The Law of Action

I was featured and interviewed as a “case study” in this book by Rob Actis – author, speaker, voice over artist and executive coach. In this book, he talks about the power of going for it. Get started and go, because fortune favors the bold.

Before War

The book Before War changes how its readers look at the world by exposing the female roots of Western civilization. It draws on the evidence from anthropology, archaeology, linguistics, primatology, and shocking new genetics data to tell the story of the matriarchal societies of the past.

Resiliency in Crisis

I wrote this self-help book to promote an online program called Holistic Recovery, which combined the 12-step traditions, shamanic wisdom, psychotherapy and more; featuring the voices of national practitioners transforming clinical systems.

The Extreme Matters

The Extreme Matters is author Charles Eisler’s take on what is required to move past our deepest fears to achieve excellence in the different areas that comprise a good life. Learn how to master your mind, body and relationships in this self-help book written for anyone for lasting change.

The Letters of Izzie Dean

This sequel to The Life & Times of Izzie Dean features a compilation of letters written by Izzie to his children and more about his travels across the country, his search for a new home, and acceptance of his mortality.

My Offerings

While pursuing journalism, I ventured into the copywriting sphere – helping socially-aware start ups perfect their messaging through creative consulting. I use my wordsmithing ways to create business documents, investor decks, websites, marketing kits, and more to launch novel concepts into the world.

Each year, I also select a handful of book projects to work on as an editor, helping authors write from the soul and build platforms that support their mission. My ultimate goal is to provide clients with agency quality work with the accessibility of an independent contractor.

Supporting visionary entrepreneurs in expressing exactly what they are and hope to accomplish through killer copywriting that turns strangers into believers is now a central focus of my business. I also use these skills in my own entrepreneurial endeavors, online courses, and investment projects.

“I have never encountered another writer like Alison Sher. Her voice is immediate, sharp and clear, and full of life. Her vision is like none other I’ve encountered either – landing on the smallest details with the kind of delicacy and strength that make details sing. I love her writing. Period.
